Friday Hall of Fame Open Recap
Day five of the 2025 Hall of Fame Open took place with a staggering 26 matches for a jam-packed, thrilling day at the International Tennis Hall of Fame.
Friday featured many ATP and WTA players competing in multiple matches in the singles and doubles draws to make up for Thursday’s suspended play.
Adrian Mannarino continued his quest for a second career Van Alen Cup. The 37 year-old Frenchman began the day claiming a 6-4, 7-5 victory on Court 1 against American Tyler Zink. Soon after, the No. 4 seed took to Center Court and claimed a come-from-behind victory over Bernard Tomic 4-6, 6-2, 6-1. The win marks Mannarino’s second appearance in the Semifinals at Newport.
“It’s not the first time I am playing two matches in a row today, but you can never expect anything on grass. A lot of tennis but I’m going to do my best to recover to play my game tomorrow,” said Mannarino.
Mannarino takes on fellow countryman Antoine Ghibaudo for their first ATP-level meeting tomorrow on Center Court.
The top women’s seed in Tatjana Maria advanced to the Semifinals over Sayaka Ishii 6-3, 6-1 on Center Court. Maria garnered 61% of total service points across the match lasting just over an hour. Currently ranked No. 45 in the world, the German player nears her career high of No. 42 reached eight years ago.
“Actually it was a really tough match, the score doesn’t say what it actually was. I was happy to come back, but I had to concentrate from the first to the last point,” said Maria. “We love Newport, this has been wonderful.”
The 37 year-old awaits Carol Zhao in the Semifinal.
On the men’s side of the draw, Zachary Svadja completed the upset of the day, taking down No. 1 seed Brandon Holt 4-6, 6-0, 6-1 on Center Court.
