Tuesday Hall of Fame Open Recap
Day three of the Hall of Fame Open took place on Tuesday with 25 matches across six courts at the International Tennis Hall of Fame. Notably, the completion of the delayed qualifying round and continuation of the main draw occurred to make for a thrilling day of tennis with rising stars and tournament veterans advancing.
The ITHF celebrated USTA Day with a ceremonial coin toss at the start of the first matches on Center Court in addition to several activities across the grounds.
It was a true Hall of Fame homecoming yesterday on Center Court, as both Brandon Holt, son of Hall of Famer Tracy Austin, and Elizabeth Mandlik, daughter of Hall of Famer Hana Mandlíková, served up victories in the Round of 32 at the Hall of Fame Open.
No. 1 seed Holt picked up a 7-6, 7-6 victory over Murphy Cassone to advance into the second round. The former World No. 99 will take on Qualifier Quinn Vandecasteele next. Soon after, Mandlik completed a dominant 6-0, 6-1 performance over Leonie Kung on Center Court to advance to her second Round of 16 WTA-level event this year.
2023 Hall of Fame Open Champion Adrian Mannarino began his quest for his second Newport title, defeating Yasutaka Uchiyama 6-3, 6-4. The 12-time tournament veteran posted an impressive 42 of 54 service points won, consistent with his notorious offensive game.
“It’s nice being back in Newport. It’s a great season to be back here and playing on grass is always really fun for me” said Mannarino. “Today was a tough match, he [Uchiyama] is a really dangerous player especially on this surface… but I stayed really consistent on my serve and it made a big difference.“
The excitement continued on the main stage when No. 1 seed Tatjana Maria and Qualifier Hailey Giavara claimed their respective matches. Maria picked up a decisive 6-3, 6-3 win off of 92% of service points won. Soon after the inclement weather delay, Giavara upset World No. 55 Ena Shibahara 3-6, 7-5, 6-1. The former Cal tennis star was dominant on first serve, winning 71% of points.
Christopher Eubanks advanced to his fourth career Round of 16 at Newport. The 2024 Hall of Fame Open Semifinalist completed a come-from-behind victory over Harvard’s Daniel Milavsky. Eubanks signature serve came up in big moments, collecting 15 aces and 76% of service points.
To close out the day on Center Court, Anna Rogers completed the upset of the day over wild card and former World No. 5 Genie Bouchard in straight sets 7-5, 6-2. After Bouchard led in the first set, Rogers came from behind to force a tiebreak and subsequently dominated– converting three break points in the second set.
Doubles action featured a 3-6, 6-4, 11-9 win by college stars Carmen Corley and Ivana Corley against Australia’s Destanee Aiava and Talia Gibson. The No. 4 doubles seed noted their excitement to play at Newport on the team’s quest to play a consecutive U.S. Open.
“It felt really good to advance here,” said the Corleys. “We are just thrilled we played our tennis and were able to handle the rain delay well. We’re building and always looking to get better, and we’re so happy to do that in Newport.”
The sibling duo awaits Mary Lewis and Brandy Walker in the next round.
The remaining matches on Center Court 2 and Court 3 were suspended due to darkness and will continue Thursday.
Day four of the 2025 Hall of Fame Open begins today with the completion of Tuesday’s matches and resumption of Round of 32, including the start of the ATP doubles draw beginning at 11 a.m. on Center Court.
